This is a brief report on the Tour de Tech Terrace. It seems that the Delta Chi "Capture the Flag" event in Tech Terrace park caused parking frustrations for resident neighbors.
Austin Keith, Tour organizer, reported approximately 630-700 riders in the Tour. Captain Hudgens, LPD, estimated about 900-1000 event riders. Both concurred there were fewer house stops (7 stops on the tour route,) 1 arrest (public intoxication), 4 citations (public urination) and 1 ticket for an unleashed dog (pitbull puppy). The route map was provided to the police--the last stop changed at the last minute yesterday. One homeowner specifically requested police presence to deter congregating overflow in their yard (2710 21st) and was satisfied with the deterrent. Police officers helped curb traffic so riders could safely pass at major intersections. The majority of riders had dispersed as of 7:20pm.
Thanks to Austin for working with LPD and continuing to address the safety concerns associated with the event!

Why is it illegal to drink and drive, but you can drink and ride a bicycle on a public street?
ReplyDeleteA bicycle with rider weigh at least a couple thousand pounds less than a vehicle with a driver and/or passengers. The likelihood of an accident being either fatal, life threatening, or causing severe injury is much greater on the order of several thousand times.
ReplyDeleteNeither activity is entirely safe whether legal or not, but I don't fear for my life when a group of boozed up cyclists come riding down the street. I have however narrowly avoided a handful of drunk drivers on several occasions while riding in my automobile with my family.
Kudos to law enforcement for their signficant presence on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the law didn't shoot that pitbull.
ReplyDeleteSo riding a bike while drinking is ok and not considered PI? Sooner or later someone is going to get killed, and the lawsuits will start for the neighborhood and/or city promoting this. Some parent that lives over in Houston or Dallas is going to be ready to hold someone responsible. Let's say we have this and drinking is not allowed. How many kids would show up for that?
ReplyDeleteIf you are going to be so negative please sign your name or leave a fake name.
ReplyDeleteAnon, take a xanex and go back to watching Glen Bleck. And if you want to arouse a bunch of litigation because the Grusendork/Jacoby/Barrett exchange wasn't exciting enough, the neighborhood is full of fabulous attorneys who are looking for billable hours. Who is the defendant again?....the Tech student who injures him or herself?
