Happy 2010

Hope everyone is geared up for a great 2010. The Holiday Home Tour was a huge success and a lot of fun. Thanks to Ami Hill-Rendon and all the volunteers for such a great job. Ami will have a full report to share here in the future. UNIT President Michael Martin shared an update regarding traffic counts on Flint. From: Sharmon Owens [mailto:SOwens@mail.ci.lubbock.tx.us] Sent: Tuesday, December 15, 2009 4:47 Subject: Speed Counts on Flint Good Afternoon, I wanted to give you all a quick update on the traffic calming devices that were installed on Flint Avenue at 23rd Street. I had promised to have an "after" study (speed and volume count) done in October to determine if the raised pavement markers (RPM) had any affect on driver behavior The study was delayed because of the construction at University & 34th Street. The thought process was that traffic might avoid the intersection under construction by using Flint or Boston. Since the construction was complete a couple of weeks ago, Traffic Engineering performed a study on Flint last week. I attempted to schedule the study as soon after construction ended at University and when TTU was still in session. I hoped to get one study done in the fall, as well as one in the spring. Therefore, you all can expect the counting devices to be placed on Flint again in mid-February. I will contact you all in late February with the results of the study. Then, we can meet again, if you'd like, to discuss the traffic calming plan for your neighborhood. Thank You, Sharmon Owens Traffic Engineering Department Head City of Lubbock 915 Ave J Lubbock, TX 79457 806-775-2134
